Hollow Mandrel-Wound Beads
Continued experiments while I get used to a new studio setup.
Medium Rose Alabaster Effetre
Alabaster Effetre colors are notoriously tricky to work with—they boil and turn pale when overheated, which was what happened a few days ago when I worked with it. This time I partially encased the rod in clear, which made the glass a little more forgiving, with the added benefit of making it more translucent. I’m mostly using the transparent beads for my bead curtain, so more translucency is better.
The beads have Helena Double Helix Frit, and 066 Dense Black Trailing
Cranberry Gold
Pretty self-explanatory. The base bead is made on clear, and only the dots are made with the Gold Cranberry. Because Gold Cranberry is a striking color, I had apply the dots, cool the bead slightly, and then reintroduce it to the flame until the color developed, careful not to melt in the dots (with varying success).
Red Roof Tile
I’ve never used this color before. I love the ways the hues shift from marigold to olive green to soft red. The glass itself was easy to work with: very buttery and little to no boiling.
These have 066 Dense Black trailing.
