Inktober 2021

The Inktober drawing challenge: in which we (humans over the internet) create one ink drawing daily for the month of October (separately), in order to create good drawing habits and foster an inky community (together). Also the month in which there is much ink staining the hands, and I’m not allowed to touch any white surfaces.

As always, the process more important then the result—completing all 31 drawings takes precedence over cohesiveness or technique, though creating structure around how I approach the drawings helps lend a cohesiveness. However, there are always some drawings that don’t follow the guidelines I’ve laid out for myself, as art can take on a mind of it own.

This year it became apparent early on that I would be working with ink splatters as the element threading all the pieces together. I kept to a warm palette for the color elements, and black for the linework. The violent aesthetic of ink splatters lent a morbidity to even the most innocent drawings.
